2011

  • The reference line (black) and the rivet line (blue).
  • Steve ProSeals the fuel sender into the right wing
  • Using an optical punch for the first time, to precisely locate the rivet holes which will hold the wing skin to the rear spar.
  • Using an adjustable rivet spacer to evenly space the rivets along the rear spar.
  • Drilling rivet holes in a very large sheet of aluminum wing skin. Carefully!
  • With the holes drilled in the skin and the skin places back on the wing, I use the skin as a drilling guide to drill 1/8" holes into the spar, Clecoing as I go.
  • Using a Dremel tool to cut the gear box to length.

  • Looking down into the top of the right wing, showing ribs 13 (left end, closest to the fuselage), 12, 11, 10, and 9+8 (the doubled pair on the right). The fuel sender is above the spar. The fuel pickup is the tube below the spar. The fuel cap is temporarily taped to the spar.
  • Right wing fuel pickup tube
  • Right wing fuel pickup strainer drilled into end of the fuel pickup tube
  • Fuel pickup in right wing
  • Crimping wire to fuel sender
  • Fuel sender wires, extended to wing root
  • Jack explains the plans to me.
  • Deburring the landing gear box. (Jack thinks photography is more interesting than metal work.)
  • A gusset covered with ProSeal. This one is inside the right wing fuel tank. If you look closely, you can see a small gap in the ProSeal (which I filled after taking this picture).
  • Runing a bead of ProSeal to bond the wing skin to a rib.
  • Runing a bead of ProSeal to bond the wing skin to rib #9, which is the outboard wall of the fuel tank.
  • The fuel pickup fin with quick drain installed.
